FSU English in the News

Our department has been in the news twice in recent weeks. Professor Carole Weatherford’s English 370 course, Hip Hop: Poetry, Politics, and Popular Culture, was recently profiled in the Fayetteville Observer in an article by Venita Jenkins. The article focuses on Ms. Weatherford’s interest in the history and evolution of hip hop and on the value of learning about this musical, artistic, and cultural phenomenon.

In other news, Dr. Chuck Tryon published an editorial in the Raleigh News and Observer, in which he made the argument that we need to do a better job of recognizing the value of liberal arts degrees, especially in terms of the skills that many students in majors like English can learn during their academic careers.
